Environmental Thresholds
Mentored by: Faizan Khatri
This project is thought through the natural processes and systems, their flows, cycles and interdependencies on the site. The environment as we experience it is a set of interconnected networks which balance each other to maintain the rhythmic flows.
This project majorly interacts with the flow of water on the site and focuses on how site can itself become a resource of building material for the built form that will be built on it.
Site-Evolved Perambulate
Initial observations and responses to the ground, the edge, and natural systems on site :
The significant observation made after visiting the basalt-stone site was the site being stranded from the mangrove ecology. It made me curious to find out the reason for the absence of mangrove only in that patch of the wetland. This curiosity started to build questions for a larger intent of the project.
EMERGING DESIGN QUESTIONS:
How can I bring more people to this site and make them wonder about the absence of mangroves too?
Can I spread awareness about the site through my intervention?
Can my building set an example for site being the resource for the main building material?
This questions helped to shape the additional program which is to make people wander around trees , spreading awareness about mangrove ecology and encouraging the people to plant trees in the wetlands.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design idea was thought through series of conceptual patterns that were imagined.
MODEL EXPLORATIONS
Idea of spaces enclosed in curved walls was explored
